FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE ATTENDING PRESCHOOL TO ENROL AT TIGHTROPE LEARNING?

Absolutely not. Tightrope Learning is for children ages 2-5 who are preparing to start Kindergarten. Our pre-assessments will plan, make goals and begin your child on the path to a happy and successful transition.

DOES TIGHTROPE LEARNING CATER FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS?

We certainly do! Our experienced teachers are all trained in the area of special needs and so understand the varying challenges which all learners face. Whether it be behavioural, social, emotional or physical, our caring and compassionate teachers will embrace and cater to all learners.

Tightrope Learning is also able to invoice NDIS.

HOW DOES THIS PROGRAM DIFFER FROM THE PRESCHOOL'S SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM?

Preschools do a fabulous job at designing and implementing their school readiness programs. The children are sometimes allowed to bypass this time though, and make other choices rather than fully participate. Tightrope Learning still allows the children to be children, have loads of fun and learn through play, but ensures that your child will be concentrating, staying on-task and focussed during the activities which they need to be. When children enter Kindergarten, many are not used to being told to stay in their seat and focus for a certain amount of time. They are not used to listening to and following directions or waiting for the teacher's attention to be on them. They are not used to working in groups, or being expected to contribute an idea.

The Tightrope Learning Program has been designed by Primary School Teachers who have collaboratively worked on getting children ready for the skills and knowledge which are sometimes missing between preschool and school. Having these fundamentals will allow your child to be ready to make friends and learn straight away, but more importantly, enter school happy and confident little learners with the necessary social skills.

WILL MY CHILD BE BORED AT SCHOOL AFTER COMPLETING THE TIGHTROPE LEARNING PROGRAM?

Definitely not! Tightrope Learning is not about completing and checking off all the learning outcomes of Kindergarten. It is about teaching your child the basic fundamentals which set a platform to further develop. Having a child in the classroom who does not display these fundamentals, holds them back from being able to keep up with the rest of the class. It may lead to a child lacking self-confidence when they see what the other children are doing. It may even lead to a child not enjoying school. We want children entering school at a level where they should be for their age. We want them to be happy, confident learners with a thirst to learn more.

IS IT POSSIBLE FOR MY CHILD TO BE CHALLENGED IF THEY ARE ALREADY WHERE THEY SHOULD BE?

Yes. Tightrope Learning is not about holding children back just because they may be ready for school now. In Kindergarten, children who display certain skills will be challenged anyway. We can introduce open-ended tasks which will help your child to further develop their thinking and academic skills.

HOW MUCH DO SESSIONS COST AND DO PARENTS STAY?

Each 2 hour session is $65. Upon enrolling, a deposit of $65 is required but will then become the first session's payment.

No, parents do not stay as the program is designed to be as close to school as possible. Parents can however, stay for a while until their child settles. There is also a waiting room to wait in for a while. After the first session, the children are usually ready to wave you good bye and get started.

WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU JOIN OUR CLASSROOM!

The Saturday classes also include children from K-2 who may need a little extra help with their school readers or sight words. Many of these children are past kids I had in my previous years who just like to come back on the weekends.
